Compression Socks

Compression Socks

1 How do I use this compression sock?
It is easier to put on when seated with legs raised. First, turn the upper part of the sock inside out to the heel and gently slide down to the foot part (use when foot & leg are dry). Then carefully slip your foot into the foot part of the sock. Pull up evenly towards heel and up to the knee and position to length, keeping the fabric straight. To remove your sock, pull downwards on top band as far as your ankle, then push both thumbs to ease it over your heel and foot. The high degree of elasticity in the yarn mix allows for the socks to be pulled up past the knee. To avoid over constriction at the knee/lower thigh and ensure correct compression, the sock should be worn evenly below the level of the knee. If the sock appears to be slightly long, gently smooth out downwards below the knee and adjust to your lower leg length, trying to avoid any folds or creases along its entire length.
2 What does compression (sometimes termed graduated compression) do?
Compression reduces swelling and build-up of fluid (including lactic acid) in the lower leg by gently squeezing your lower limb (highest compression is at the ankle) forcing the fluid up and preventing pooling in your legs, ankle and feet. Compression provides the added support required to help blood to circulate through veins in your lower leg. This reduces the development of symptoms of ache, itch, pain and swelling directly caused by poor sluggish blood flow in the lower leg.
3Is compression suitable for everyone or just those with a problem?
Everyone can benefit from wearing compression socks daily for preventative purposes. For those needing to wear compression for medical reasons, please consult your physician and wear the appropriate prescribed medical grade recommended compression product. In addition, we do not recommend our preventative compression socks to those under 16 years of age unless specifically recommended by their physician.
